The action plan

If goals state where the coachee wants to go, then the action plan is the roadmap that tells them how to get there. This is where the differences between coaching and training become obvious. You can begin planning how coaching sessions will guide the coachee towards ultimately achieving those goals. The strategies you employ will depend on the individual, the workplace, the nature of the goals and your own coaching style. Together the coach and the coachee, through discussion, analysis and negotiation, prepare an action plan. The coach must draw upon their knowledge of the coachee and their experience in the workplace to empower the individual and guide them through the process.
